Art Gallery of New South Wales
After visiting the Art Gallery of New South Wales I have been thinking about the talent that requires to make or just to think about making a single piece. Among the different paintings, sculptures and so, one of them drew my attention specially: The New House (1953) by John Brack. What draws my attention the most is the contrast between the idea of a happy new home and the clearly distanced couple of the painting: they stand in an enlightened, almost empty interior, which creates a feeling of loneliness rather than the warm environment of a home. Brack’s style and colours make the scene feel sad and depressing, yet, he uses warm colouring, highlighting the feelings of the couple. From the gallery, I would highlight how it presents not only breathtaking works but also pieces like this that reveal social meanings of the everyday life.
